BEEHIVE: Place of shelter where colonies of bees make and store honey. It is where the queen bee lives and lays her eggs.
CITRONELLA: A sharp-smelling oil used in insect repellents and candles. Mosquitoes apparently do not like the smell of it.
INSECT: A small creature with six legs. Some of the members of the insect family are bees, mosquitoes and wasps.
INSECT STING: It often results in pain, swelling and itching. Insect venom from the stinger, which is sometimes left in the skin, can cause an allergic reaction.
ITCH: A sensation on the skin that makes us want to scratch it away.
LYME DISEASE: A serious disease that can result from a tick bite. Symptoms include a bulls-eye type of rash, fatigue and flu-like symptoms. Not everyone who gets this disease experiences traditional symptoms, so you must check your body for ticks daily if you live in a high-risk area.
SKIN: It's actually an organ - the biggest organ of the human body, compared to the heart, liver, etc.! It is made up of different layers. It protects our body from germs, holds our bones together and even controls how hot or cold we feel.
STINGER: Located at the rear end of the bee or wasp, it usually is used for protection. When stung, it enters the skin and causes a reaction. The stinger has a sac of venom (poison) at the end, which pumps into our skin through the stinger.
SUNBURN: Irritated skin that results from too much sun exposure without sunscreen. It is important to protect the skin by using sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15!
TOPICAL ANESTHETIC: A spray or creme that contains an ingredient like benzocaine, which is used to numb the skin in the event of a bug bite, bee sting, burn, itchy rash, etc. It works quicker than other itch relieving ingredient.
URUSHIOL: The poisonous oil in the poison ivy stem or leaf that irritates the skin, causing an itchy, bumpy rash.
UV: Ultra-violet sun rays that cause sunburn.
